California brothers found guilty in beating death of groom on wedding night

Baltimore's former top prosecutor Marilyn Mosby has trial delayed after entire defense team quits

Former Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby's trial for perjury and making false mortgage applications was delayed again to November after her entire defense team quit last month, according to an order issued Monday.  Mosby pleaded not guilty last year to the charges, which allege that she falsely claimed a financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic to withdraw $90,000 from her retirement accounts, then used those funds to place down payments on two vacation properties in Florida.  Despite the claim of financial hardship, prosecutors say that Mosby received her full salary of $247,955.58 in 2020, the same year that she withdrew from her retirement accounts.  Prosecutors also alleged that Mosby lied on mortgage applications by failing to disclose unpaid federal taxes.  Mosby's former lead defense attorney, A. Motive for Albuquerque double homicide still unknown

Authorities said the deaths of three people in Albuquerque last week was a double homicide and a suicide, but the offender’s name hasn’t been released yet. Albuquerque police said detectives have determined that the man fatally stabbed the two victims and then shot himself inside a house. They said the offender’s relatives may be in a different country and haven’t been notified yet of his death. There is still no known motive for what occurred as police continue to investigate the deaths. Rapper Kodak Black ordered into drug rehab by judge

A Florida judge ordered rapper Kodak Black to drug rehab for 30 days on Tuesday after he allegedly tested positive for fentanyl while awaiting trial on a drug trafficking charge. Broward County Judge Barbara Duffy allowed the performer to remain free until March 7 so he could perform at the Rolling Loud concert near Los Angeles over the weekend, The Miami Herald reported. Duffy had earlier issued a warrant for his arrest. The 25-year-old performer had missed a court-ordered drug test on Feb. 3 and then tested positive on Feb. 8. He is awaiting trial from a July arrest on a charge of trafficking oxycodone . He has pleaded not guilty. A California teacher was arrested Monday after a school employee found hidden recording devices in a local high school, authorities said.  Siu Kong Sit, 37, is charged with possession of (or manufacturing) child pornography, burglary, and two other misdemeanors .  Police officers responded to Beckman High School in Irvine, California, Monday after a contracted maintenance worker discovered hidden recording devices in the all-gender restroom near the pool.  The contractor turned over the recording devices to administrative staff, who alerted the police. Seattle police officer assaulted during stolen vehicle recovery, incident escalates into barricade situation

A Seattle police officer was assaulted while recovering a stolen vehicle early Sunday morning, according to the department.  The officer found the stolen vehicle in the 2300 block of Franklin Avenue East around 1:30 a.m., police said.  While recovering the vehicle, a man appeared from a nearby apartment and tried to intervene in the tow truck driving away with the stolen vehicle. Seattle police said the man was identified as a 42-year-old suspect with multiple outstanding felony warrants. A short foot pursuit ensued, and the officer took the suspect into custody.  As the officer waited for backup to arrive, the suspect started yelling and shouting for someone inside the apartment, police said. A man fatally shot by police during an exchange of gunfire near a Massachusetts casino had called for more police transparency after his own teenage son was shot and wounded by Connecticut officers in 2017. William Tisdol, 48, of Hartford, Connecticut, was shot at about 2 a.m. Saturday near the MGM Springfield casino, according to a statement Monday from the office of Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni. Members of the Massachusetts State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit were responding to a report of a man in the casino "acting aggressive to others and possibly armed with a firearm," the statement said. Vermont woman escapes kidnappers by driving off in their truck with hands bound, face covered, police say

A woman being held hostage in Vermont was able to escape by driving off in the suspects’ car – even though her hands were still bound and her face partially covered.  Two people have since been arrested in connection with the woman’s restraint.  Witnesses in the town of St. Johnsbury called police the morning of Feb. 23 after seeing a woman suspiciously driving a truck . Her hands were bound together with duct tape and her head was partially covered with a duct-taped bag. A Georgia elementary school principal was arrested last week for multiple charges of alleged child cruelty and false imprisonment, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. In a press release, the GBI said Anastagia Carter, 51, of Douglas, Georgia, was charged with two counts of first-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of third-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of simple battery that stemmed from incidents at Indian Creek Elementary School. The Coffee County Board of Education contacted the GBI after receiving information about an incident between Carter and a student. Rising natural gas costs in Southern California have many restaurants on the brink of raising costs of menu items or even shutting the doors. The LA Times reported that Tre Dinh, the owner of Pho 87, a Vietnamese restaurant in the Chinatown section of Los Angeles received an astronomical natural gas bill . Authorities have confirmed a crash in Arizona involving a pickup truck and a group of bicyclists left at least two people dead and 11 others injured. Officials from Texas and Michigan say they were unaware that soil and water from the site of the East Palestine, Ohio, freight train derailment was being taken to their areas. A Norfolk Southern train with 50 rail cars, 10 of which were carrying vinyl chloride, derailed in East Palestine on Feb. 3. The derailment caused hazardous chemicals to spill onto the ground and sent a plume of smoke into the air.  Days after the derailment , officials conducted a controlled release of chemicals to avoid the risk of an explosion. Residents were evacuated before officials conducted the release, but have since been allowed back. Wastewater and soil from the site of the derailment was taken to hazardous waste companies in both Texas and Michigan, and some officials claim that they didn't get any notice. A sailor killed during the Pearl Harbor attack was laid to rest Thursday, over 81 years after the 1941 invasion. Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Herman Schmidt was 28 years old when Japanese forces attacked the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii . Schmidt, along with over 400 other men from the USS Oklahoma, was initially buried as an unknown soldier. Only 35 of the men on the USS Oklahoma were identified immediately after the war.  In 2015, analysts were cleared to exhume and identify the remains from the ship. The shooting happened in Columbus, Georgia, on Feb. 17 at around 10 p.m. when police officers responded to a shooting that left nine children injured, including a 5-year-old.  Officials with the Columbus Police Department announced on Friday that D’Angelo Robinson, Sr., 35, and an unnamed 15-year-old boy were arrested in relation to the shooting. A former soldier was arrested Thursday in Florida in connection with the death of a pregnant service member at an Army base in Germany 21 years ago, federal prosecutors said.  Shannon L. Wilkerson, 42, is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 3, 2001 death of Pfc. Amanda Gonzales at Fliegerhorst Kaserne, then an Army base in Hanau, Germany, the Justice Department said. Wilkerson was a soldier at the time before he was later discharged from active duty in 2004.  MEET THE AMERICAN WHO HONORS THE MEMORY OF 200,000 FALLEN WAR HEROES Gonzales, 19, was four months pregnant at the time she was killed, the FBI said. Florida police released new body camera footage showing the arrest of a woman following her alleged rampage at a McDonald's over not receiving a free cookie she insisted she was owed.  Amari Bente Hendricks, 24, allegedly waved a loaded handgun at a McDonald's drive-thru after she did not receive a free cookie. Body camera footage from the encounter shows a disgruntled Hendricks continually arguing with Altamonte Spring's police officers following an officer pull over. A train derailed near Burlington, North Dakota , early Friday, and no injuries were reported, nor hazardous materials spilled, a fire official said. The train was a mile-and-a-half long with more than 60 train cars, fire Chief Karter Lesmann of the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department said. Several train cars derailed near County Road 10 between Des Lacs and Burlington, and 17 empty containers fell 4 or 5 feet off the rails without tipping over, along with two BNSF Railway locomotives. Montana man charged for violent threats to Democratic US senator

A Montana man has been charged with threatening the life of Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester via voicemails left at his Kalispell office, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Kevin Patrick Smith, 45, pleaded not guilty Thursday to two felony counts of threats to injure and murder a U.S. Senator during a hearing in Missoula. U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen DeSoto ordered Smith held in federal custody at least until a detention hearing set for Monday. Smith’s public defender, Andy Nelson, said Smith is presumed innocent. The first count refers to calls made Jan. 30 and the second is for messages left Feb. 10, after the FBI had warned Smith against making any more threats. Bibb County Deputy Brad Johnson was shot and killed in 2022 by a man authorities said had his prison sentence shortened under Alabama's good-time behavior incentive law despite escaping from a prison work release center in 2019.
